If you're returning it's basically more of the same with some new ideas and polished a bit more.Heading out from the cabin and puzzling through a snowy wilderness will take you to a castle and immediately split your dynamic duo apart.

Otherwise I highly recommend this game, if you're new to the series play the games in order, the first one is free. The second negative is the walkie talkie, instead of just having voice activated audio like most apps, the walkie talkies are forced push to talk, and when you're transmitting you can't hear the other person, which means you can easily talk over each other which leads to unnecessary confusion and frustration. It adds a sense of urgency to the puzzle, but only really the first time you attempt it, after the first death you kinda don't care it's more of an annoyance than anything. I found that these are typically never possible to do first try, the process of discovering the mechanics and relaying them to each other and then actually solving the puzzle before death is impossible. First is that some areas (not many) have timed puzzles, if you don't solve them fast enough one of the players caught in a trap will die and you'll both respawn just before the puzzle. I recommend playing them in order if you enjoy the first one.

The best thing about this series is that the first game (We Were Here) is completely free on steam, so you can get a feel for the game play by playing that first. Sadly these kind of games lack much replayability once you know the puzzles, most of the fun is seeing the puzzle fresh for the first time, but this is balanced by a very reasonable sale price. The audio is also handled well, it has it's own soundtrack and has good contextual sounds which aid in understanding puzzle mechanics, and satisfying crunchy snow to stomp about in.

The effects are basic but the end result is very good, with the bonus that it runs extremely well, good for old PCs. It looks visually pleasing as the game mixes up the environments, maintaining the same kind of aesthetic but making areas feel unique. The graphics are 3D cartoon like, which suits the game well. Then you need to figure out the puzzle mechanics through exploration and play, again this can be tricky because sometimes the outcome of your actions happens on your friends screen rather than yours. This game doesn't pull any punches when it comes to puzzle difficulty, the goal of the puzzles is never explicitly stated, you have to work this out via contextual clues in the environment, and this is made harder because some will be in the room you can't access. You 100% need a working mic to play this game, while you can host or join public rooms, I'd highly recommend playing this with a friend. Clues and puzzle elements are split between the rooms, which means you need to describe to your coop friend what you're seeing, and together work out the goal of the puzzle, and what information you need to share. A lot of time is spent with the player apart taking different routes, locked into their own areas, this forces you communicate via walkie talkie to cooperate. It's a first person 2 player coop puzzle game (it's not split screen coop!) where players work together to solve puzzles in order to progress. I can highly recommend We were here together, this game is the the 3rd in the series. We Were Here Together Game Review by Frosty
